What the Hell Have I Done? || 2017 Edition

Although I could very well fall into an existential crisis about the mind-boggling warp that is time, I won't. I'll save that to an offline ramble. For now, I want to look back on my 2017. It has been a year and a half! So much has happened. Here's a little summary:
Got My Driver's Licence
This was a big milestone for me. I guess we all started in 'vehicles' with four wheels when we were three. Remember when you had a bicycle with training wheels? That's four tyres in total. I felt like I finally came full circle this year when I replaced the tyres and training wheel for actual wheels. I can't really say that I did too much driving alone, but it's nice to know legally, I can drive.

Had a Road Trip with My Best Friend
Following on from the topic of cars, I went on a road trip with my best friend, in Cape Town. Despite living in Johannesburg for 18 years, I had never visited Cape Town up until May. So, I guess this is a double whammy. We circled the edge of a rather dangerous-looking Chapman's Peak and definitely got lost several times thereafter. But, it was so much fun! The day included penguins and driving on the edge of mountains with a fairly new driver which was going to be an adenture from the start. Our lives only came into risk once- which is a successful road trip if you ask me!

Went to the UK for the First Time
I'm writing this post in the UK, where I now live which is funny to think about since I visited the island nation for the first time just 10 months ago, in February. It's crazy how things change so drastically within a year. I've lived in the UK for three months now but it all started with that little trip in February which you can see more of here.

Learnt How to Pronounce New Words
I openly call myself a logophile. So much so that it's on my Instagram bio. A logophile is a lover of words, and that I most definitely am. I have learnt many new weird and wonderful words this year, but I've also found out that I've been mispronouncing some words incorrectly for 19 years- which is quite a while if you ask me. Turns out 'quey' is pronounced 'key', Yosemite isn't pronounced yo-se-mite, and who the heck knows what I've been doing with Arabic and Analytics, but apparently I don't say them correctly. I guess, you live and you learn!

Spent Two Months in Greece
I'm a very lucky girl. I got to spend two months in the ever-glorious country of Greece- which involved island hoping and drinking enough frappes for a non-Greek person's lifetime. It was two months of utter bliss! I wrote quite a bit about it on the blog in a series I called 'Girl vs. Greece'.

Found My Tinder Soulmate
This total and utter bliss that I mentioned earlier may or may not have had something to do with a boy. If you're a regular reader here, then you'll know all about 'E'. If not, you can read our full story here and here. I call him my Tinder Soulmate when in actuality we could be the furthermost things away from soulmates. It's a long story, but we both swiped right on Tinder (isn't that how all contemporary love stories start?) and as they say 'the rest is history'...well, actually, not really.

...And Then Lost My Tinder Soulmate
We haven't spoken properly since the summer.  But, 'E' makes it into my year's summary because I like to think of him as my 'summer love'. I always wanted one of those, and even put it on my Summer Bucket List!

Binge-watched Grey's Anatomy
McDreamy and McSteamy are both dreamy and steamy! I'd always heard about Grey's Anatomy and even watched the odd episode here and there, but this year, I decided to go back in time to season one, episode one and watch it all from the beginning- in order this time. I loved it!

Had my Blog Stolen
Again, if you're a regular reader then you'll know all about this one. This year, whilst I was in my bliss-haven, my blog was being scraped. That's tech-talk for being copied. I came really close to quitting my blog then. I got scared, confused and freaked out. Luckily, I came back stronger. You can read all about my experience here.

Had my House Broken Into
I rag on South Africa a lot- and I do mean a great deal. However, if I ever saw someone else belittling my nation I would be the first to stand up for it. Please tell me you're like that to? Maybe not with South Africa though but you know what I mean. Looks like my summer was a busy one, because again whilst I was in Greece, my house in South Africa got broken into. Thankfully, nothing irreplaceable was taken and all my family are safe but it was definitely unsettling to hear that my bedside tables were left open and I wasn't the one who had done that. I ha

Took My Wisdom Teeth Out
I like to think that for 19 years old I have a great deal of wisdom. Well, this year I lost some of it when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. I know I know. That was lame. Anyways, I looked like a squirrel got punched in the face and couldn't really eat properly for a while, but it was great fun!

Moved to the UK
This is probably the most major thing that happened to me in 2017. I up and left South Africa and planted myself in London. It's odd to think that I started the year in one country and I'm finishing it off in another. The move was tough at first, but I made it! I finally feel settled!

Started University
This was also a major event in 2017 for me, but maybe second to moving abroad. I started my degree in Journalism & Media and Communication! Remember I was saying earlier what a lover of words I was? Well, this is perfect for me! I've even had a couple of my own stories that I had to go out and find get published in my university's newspaper. It was a lovely feeling seeing my name in print!

Explored London
With moving to a new city comes exploration. I can't say I've done as much as I probably could have, but I took baby steps. I went to some historic and some not-so-historic places in London. I'm so excited to be continually exploring my new home. I feel like London is the kind of city that you could have lived here a lifetime and you'd still need another lifetime to see it all.

Turned 19
I guess this one shouldn't really come as a shock. Every year we become another age. To celebrate, I wrote a whole list of things that I haven't learnt at 19. I know I'm only two months into being 19, but so far I'm really enjoying it. I think it may be my favourite age yet!

Attempted Halloween
Halloween wasn't ever really 'a thing' in South Africa. Sure, we all knew what it was but we went home instead of going big. It was fun dressing up and going out with my friends. I went over to my sister who made my face look scarred. I got pretty good looks on the bus that evening!
