What I'm Studying at University + Personal Statement

At some point last week, on Twitter, I realized that I haven't yet mentioned what I'm studying at university- and I'm heading into my third week. As I've mentioned I won't be telling you what uni I'm studying at but I'm so excited to share with you what I'll be studying.
I am doing a BA (Hons) Journalism and Media & Communication. My obsession with the media is at an ultimate high. I like to think my course makes my time online a bit more productive (or that's what I'm going to keep telling myself)

When doing my application for the UK, I had to write a personal statement; I decided, instead of explaining why I was studying these subjects, I'd post the personal statement so that you get the full picture and so you may hopefully learn more about the structure and content required in a personal statement.

Many people argue that Journalism is is a profession in decline or a profession that won't make a lot of money. I've always believed that if there's a will there's a way. I love what I'm learning and ultimately, a degree is only a stepping stone.

What are you studying at uni? Have you had to write a personal statement?
Till next time-
Steph

  1. I don't think I had to write a personal statement but I can't remember. It was quite a few years ago. Your statement is written beautifully Steph!

  2. I had to write a personal statement before I went to uni and it wasn't anything like that, yours is amazing! I wish I had a copy of mine so that I could see it 4 years later! I think mine was more general as in this is why I want to go to uni, not this is why I want to do this course. I studied Event Management and graduated in July!

When I saw that you were going to uni, I thought to myself, I really hope she's doing something with journalism because I think you're going to be an incredible journalist one day! Good luck with your course Steph!

  3. Your degree sounds amazing! If I had to redo my degree, I would've explored Communications as well. I never had to write a personal statement for my uni applications but your personal statement is great!

  5. wow, your personal statement is very well doned! That's why you entered at the uni! Hope you enjoy these studies!
I think journalism is an important job if it's written in a objective way. Lately in "my" country we are suffering of manipulation from the mediums and most of spanish people don't know what really happens in Catalonia (I don't know if you hear it) and thinks what the government TV wants to let them think, this is awful, so I'm sure you will be a great journalist!

In my country we don't have to write statements to enter at uni, just approve the entrance test (that is the same for all studies, this just defines your number of priority to enter where you want). Maybe in private schools, o schools that offers scholarships make you do it

    1. Thanks C! I am definitely enjoying uni so far!

Yes! The whole debacle between Catalonia and Spain has been a MASSIVE story in the global media.
Oh wow, so you just have to take a standardised entrance exam? I love hearing about how different countries do things! Thanks for sharing!

      I hope you're well, C!

  6. That's an A+ personal statement! No wonder your university wanted you to come study with them. It's fantastic you're so passionate about Journalism. I'm really excited for you and all you're going to learn at school!

I studied Business Marketing in school, and now I'm applying to grad school for film. :)

I'm still really excited to be learning (even 6 weeks into uni...so I'm taking that as a good sign).

I hope the application went/is going well!

As always, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!

  7. Okay one your personal statement sounds awesome, I wish mine sounded that good. Your course sounds so interesting, there was one time I also wanted to be a journalist (I guess a blog might have evolved from that) but now I've gone on a more science-y route. I hope you the best in your degree xx

    1. Haha, thanks Sophie!
Science and journalism can actually be intertwined in more ways than people think.
A blog is a great way to maintain 'journalistic' practises!

Similarly, I hope you have the best time at uni and in your "science-y" degree!
