A List of Things That I Love/Hate About Blogging

We all have love-hate relationships. You know, something we can't live with or without. Something that teeters on the two opposite emotions of love and hate. I have a love-hate relationship with a lot of things: siblings, tomatoes and blogging.

I speak about blogging A LOT. To be frank, I quite enjoy the topic. Blogging is something that I sometimes love- so much so that it's the first thing that I think about in the morning and the last thing again before I go to sleep. But, I also go through moments where I hate blogging. Hate. It can very easily get to be too much.

Today, I thought I'd share with you the things that make me love/hate blogging:

  • The interaction with strangers around the world
  • The feeling when I see a new comment
  • Learning something from people's comments
  • The moment when I press 'publish' on a post
  • Finishing a new post
  • Getting inspiration for a good blog post idea
  • The support of other bloggers
  • Getting emails saying how much my blog means to someone
  • The openness that blogging allows
  • The way blogging is a means to document my life
  • Playing around with colour schemes, layouts and themes
  • The process that goes into planning a post
  • Seeing hard work pay off
  • When I write the 'perfect' alliteration
  • The sense of perseverance I get from pushing through the more difficult days
  • The feeling of having a friend in the internet

  • Taking blog post photographs
  • Keeping to a blog schedule
  • Scheduling tweets
  • Competitiveness between bloggers
  • The focus on statistics
  • That if I disappear for a week, my blog views drop exponentially
  • That sometimes hard work doesn't pay off as quickly as I'd like
  • Comments that say 'If you follow me, I'll follow you'

As you can see, the 'love' outdoes the 'hate. But, depending on the day, some things under 'love' tend to sneak more into the 'hate' side of things and vice versa. That's just life in the blogosphere.

What would you add to this list? Is there something that I hate about blogging that you love?

  1. I could not have summed up a better list of things I "Love" and "Hate"! What I wanted to point out is that look how many more items are on your 'love' list than your 'hate' list - that is no coincidence! Whenever I am feeling a little down on myself on my blog I think of all the reasons that make me happy

    1. I'm so glad you could relate to this, Allie! I noticed that too; There's a lot more love on this list.
I think that's a great way to boost yourself back into being a bit happier!

Thank you for leaving a comment!

  2. Follow for follow is the thing that bugs me so bad. I ignore the comment and will definitely not check out their blog. I'm not too bothered about the stats but it really saddens me when I work hard on a post and I don't get much response. OFC MAKING FRIENDS IS THE BEST PART!! xx N

    BLOG//Jasmine Loves

    1. Glad I'm not the only one, N!
Yeah, statistics gets us all at some point but the community and friendships which blogging allows is what I'm here for!

      As always, thank you!

  3. I completely agree with this list!

  4. I agree so much with this list! Something that I find very frustrating is that sometime hard work doesn't pay off or it doesn't immediately! x

    Ariadna || RAWR BOWS

    1. I think something that you mentioned in your comment is very interesting, Ariadna. We like instant gratification; Many figure that if something doesn't pay off immediately then it's less worth while. It's very easily to fall into that trap.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. What I love about blogging is that I can express myself- since I'm quite the introvert type, writing really helps :)

Homed: Life in Sugar & Spice

    1. Writing is one of the best ways to express yourself!
      Thanks, Fi!

  6. Totally agree with Champagne Tuesdays' comment at the top - just comparing the length of your lists just shows that there are definitely more things to love about blogging than to hate!
I absolutely love being able to connect with people from all over the world and with all different backgrounds. It's really amazing to have all these people at our fingertips to constantly learn from and talk to. I can't stand the competitiveness though. Luckily for me, I've never encountered anyone that has been openly competitive and bitchy, and whenever I see drama to do with that sort of thing on Twitter, I stay clear. It's just unnecessary!
    Great post, Steph!

    Olivia - The Northernist x

    1. Yes! I agree with you 100%, Olivia!
It's incredible to think that because of blogging, we have instantaneous connection with people which are so different from us.

Staying clear is the best way to go! I think there's a lot of positivity in the blogging community- a lot more than hatefulness.

Thank you for your in-depth comment! I really appreciate it!

  7. I loved this post!! There definitely are some negative points to blogging, but the positive definitely does outweigh the negative. I love being able to write and express my opinion whilst building a community of likeminded people xx

      I couldn't agree more!
      Thanks Lauren!

  8. I share so many loves and hates of blogging with you! There are so many things I enjoy about blogging and I'm so glad I started it. Scheduling tweets is definitely one of my least favourite tasks - it's so tedious isn't it! x

    Jenny | LuxeStyle

    1. Glad to see we have a lot in common when it comes to blogging, Jenny!
      It is indeed!

Thank you for the lovely comment, Jenny!

  9. OK I firstly love my blog, love the viewers, commenters, community, sense of ambition and inspiration from the blogging community, love the feeling after a post is published, clicking onto a newly published post. I hate how as soon as I click publish, I have to write a "foreword" for my blog post on Google+,EDITING my photos is such a daunting experience, some weeks, when I put SO much effort into a blog post and I only receive two comments for the week.

    1. We have a lot of common 'loves' when it comes to blogging.
I don't like editing photos much either!

ou should try marketing your posts and blog on Twitter. I've found that it's a great way to bring in new traffic to your blog!

      Thanks ST!

  10. I have such a love/hate relationship with taking photos! I always dread taking them and put them off, but whilst I'm doing it I love how creative it is. I then hate it all over again when I have to tidy things up afterwards haha

    Steph - www.nourishmeblog.co.uk

    1. Tidying up is the worst! I end up with a whole bunch of little moods with random props!

  11. I totally agree with this! I love blogging, but I find it really hard to stick to a schedule, and sometimes I wish that my work would pay off a little faster, lol
    Amy xx

    A Habit Of Solitude

    1. Sometimes faster would be a lot less of a pain in the neck!
My new way of blogging is to stuff schedules. I find blogging a lot more enjoyable that way!

      Thanks Amy!

  12. The schedule is my least favourite thing, especially since school can keep you busy!

    Stella xx

    1. Exactly! It's difficult always commit to a specific time. Sometimes things can get in the way!

  13. Can totally relate to all these points!

    Love this post!

    Follow for follow?

    1. Haha, I love your sense of humour anonymous. Your comment made me chuckle!

    2. I couldn't help it XD the opportunity was just too tempting ^_^

  15. I completely understand you! Blogging can be very hard and tiring but so fun and interesting at the same time. I hate companies that take bloggers for granted and the whole 'I'm better than you' thing going on between some bloggers :)

    -Leta | The Nerdy Me

    1. Very often, the most difficult things end up being the most fun-like blogging.
      Thanks Leta!

  16. Ohhh, SAME HERE!!! :) I can totally relate to everything especially scheduling posts. I hate it :|

    1. Haha, glad we're in the same boat!!

      Thanks, Shaira!

  17. I agree with all of these!!! Great Post!

    xx Bubbles

    1. Thanks Bubbles!
      I really appreciate your comment!

  18. There are so many things that makes blogging a pain but it's the good things that bring us back

    1. That's it exactly! The good out weighs the bad!

      Thanks, V!

  19. I couldn't have summed up a better list of things that I also love and hate about blogging. Getting inspiration for a new post I love, and the communication with other bloggers and their support is great. I am getting frustrated with photography the more I have to do, running out of ideas is the struggle I find.
    Great read,
    Lois x

    1. I'm so glad you could relate, Lois!
The 'lightbulb' moment as a new idea strikes is one of my favourite feelings!
Yeah... I'm in the same boat when it comes to photography!

      THANK YOU!

  20. Good list. I also love all the things you mentioned that you love. As for the hate list, many of those things don't particularly bother me. Sometimes it does seem to be a chore to take pictures for my blog, but it depends on what mood I'm in. I only recently discovered that scheduling tweets was a thing, but I personally don't do it. I just live tweet.

    1. Of course people love and hate different things. That's true about everything. If I'm really inspired and 'in the mood' then taking blog photos is more enjoyable but mostly not. I much prefer the writing aspect.

I like to do both-live tweeting and scheduled tweets.

      Thanks for the comment, Britney.
